“Good Trouble Quilts – The Fight. The Progress. The Legacy”

We were proud to be a part of the book signing and reception for “Good Trouble Quilts – The Fight. The Progress. The Legacy” organized by Atlanta Quilt Festival and South Fulton Arts on August 1st. The book is a collection of quilts that are part of the John Lewis Trilogy of quilts.

The Book Signing and Reception was the first day of the  Atlanta Quilt Festival, which is running until September 6 at the Southwest Arts Center (915 New Hope Road South Fulton, GA). A number of Quilts from “Good Trouble Quilts” are on display at the Festival.

O.V. Brantley, her board, the quilters and all of the supporters outdid themselves!

It’s just another way we’re celebrating what would have been Rep John Lewis’ 85th Birthday. 2025 also marks the fifth anniversary of his passing (July 17, 2020).

Our President and CEO, Detria Austin Everson was at the opening along with Wesley Vann, John-Miles Lewis and Founding Board Member Mignon Morman Willis. (They are pictured here with O.V. Brantley.)

They met the quilters and had our books signed. The book includes a personal reflection about Congressman John Lewis from our friend and colleague, Lecia Brooks. It was a fabulous event.

Congressman Lewis would have been proud of their work.

O.V. is a member of the Brown Sugar Stitchers Quilt Guild. At their 10th anniversary (in 2010), she shared that they honored Congressman Lewis and presented him with a quilt. At that event, he talked about how much he loved quilts.

At the reception, John-Miles Lewis was presented with his own quilt by Melinda Rushing, “Sailing Against the Wind.” He shared his amazement and appreciation for the quilters’ skills and shared fond memories of family members quilting when he was young.
