The John and Lillian Miles Lewis Foundation Announces the February 21st #JohnLewisSelfie Campaign
In honor of what would have been John Lewis’ 84th birthday, the foundation encourages everyone to share a selfie and reflect on Congressman John Lewis’ legacy.
ATLANTA, GA (February 16, 2024) – The John and Lillian Miles Lewis Foundation (JLMLF) is excited to announce the #JohnLewisSelfie campaign as a way for everyone to celebrate the life and legacy of a national treasure. People are encouraged to post pictures with Congressman John Lewis on social media Wednesday, February 21, 2024. They can use a selfie with Congressman John Lewis, a selfie with something bearing his name, a selfie in front of a mural, or a selfie with one of the books he wrote and include an explanation of what his legacy means to them.
“It has been almost four years since he left us,” Board Chair Michael Collins said. “We miss his voice and his leadership now more than ever. If he were here, he would encourage us to keep the faith, to not get lost in a sea of despair. Continue to engage and most importantly do not give up, do not give in, and do not give out.”
“The Foundation’s goal is to carry on Congressman John Lewis’ legacy, share his teachings and encourage people to live a purposeful life. This campaign will celebrate his birthday and create community,” said Detria Everson, CEO of JLMLF.
Participants are encouraged to post to Facebook, Twitter (X), Instagram or LinkedIn using the hashtag #JohnLewisSelfie. The Foundation will share a feed of social media posts on jlmlf.org/johnlewisselfie. If someone wants to participate, but they are not on social media, they may email a picture with an explanation of how John Lewis inspired them to info@jlmlf.org.
