Morgan Freeman Reads Congressman John Lewis’ Final Op-Ed


Six years ago today, we lost Congressman John Lewis. But we did not lose what he gave us.


In this five-minute video, Morgan Freeman reads Congressman Lewis’ final op-ed, “Together, You Can Redeem the Soul of Our Nation,” accompanied by images from his life and work. Written shortly before his passing, the essay was published posthumously by The New York Times on July 30, 2020.


His legacy lives in every voter registered, every neighbor who shows up for another and every act of good trouble taken when silence would have been easier.


But today is not just for remembering—it is for recommitting.


The work is not finished. Voting rights are still contested. Justice is still deferred for too many. The circumstances of others are still ours to answer for.


Stay inspired. Stand up. Speak up. Get in good trouble.
